Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage should be honored by all.”
God's Word defines marriage as the lifelong union of one man and one woman. This complementary union exemplifies Christ's relationship with His bride the Church.
The fact that real marriage has been counterfeited does not undermine the truth that marriage should be honored by all. Believers in Christ have the opportunity to witness to the blessedness of this divine institution by living in a lifelong loving covenantal relationship for better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. What God has joined together let no man put asunder. Christ does allow that a Christian may suffer through a divorce with a clean conscience in the case of desertion or sexual immorality.
Societies which value real marriage so little that they are willing to counterfeit it generally see a very low level of interest in real marriage. As members of the Church, the bride of Christ, we would be wise to speak well of this divine insitution and love and honor our spouses to the best of our abilities, empowered by God's grace.
